i agree with the first bit; it seems that anyone who samples/speeds up a
breakbeat these days is immediately labelled as a drum n bass artist.
IMO, a breakbeat is a necessary part of a drum and bass tune, but its
nowhere near sufficient. i reckon squarepusher gets this dnb label purely
because of the breakbeat sampling. fair enough, he may have had a go at
some dnb (eg tundra), and he may use similar production techniques, but
if you dropped anything from his latest album at a full-on dnb night, the
dj would get some weird looks. i mean you dont call alex reece jazz just
cos he sampled a bloody trumpet, or public enemy rock just cos they
sampled a distorto-guitar. squarepusher isnt dnb. he makes all types of
tunes, and gets unfairly pigeon-holed. HND is closer to jazz, if
anything, cos it sounds like a band being castrated er orchestrated in a
jazz kind of way. (solos, blues-scale melodies etc). but whats my opinion
worth? dont take my word for it.
as for "intelligent drum and bass", well, i just dont know what that
means. as far as im concerned, i read "intelligent" as "theyve cut up the
break in more places" ie intelligent is a silly name. i dont know, dont
cross examine me, man.
Mad Frankie tries it on:

dont bother paying this moronic amount of cashmoney for this. IT ISNT
WORTH IT. if you really wanted fast bucks, try selling it for 6UKP, which
is more than its worth anyway. good luck to you though, some dickhed
might pay this for it (sucker). i used my copy as an ashtray, bidding
starts now.
